Pursuing our dreams, not theirs.

Ideas on pursuing our individual dreams, not the dreams of others. Learning to hear our inner voice to guide us toward them while filtering out the noise of modern society’s dream pushers.

Hi,
(I wrote this Sunday and forgot to send it 🙃)
How fast is fast?
How fast is fast enough?
All the advertising I’ve been noticing lately promotes doing thing faster. The message is usually do MORE and do it FASTER.
I see this daily at my co-working place too. Everyone is “hustling” to do more, in less time.
Another component of this is how more gets done faster. Usually speed and quantity increases by squeezing out humanity. This comes in the form of “tools” such as templates and auto-completion, for example.
Yet, despite the much-hyped promise of artificial intelligence (AI), these tools inevitably fall short. I experienced this recently when I got put into an automated sales pipeline. The interaction was an initial phone call followed by a series of timed and prewritten emails.
I never responded to any of them.
What’s the goal of this race for speed at the expense of humanity?
It’s usually to do even more, even faster, rather than taking time for restorative and human interaction.
And what’s the ultimate goal of doing more and doing it faster?
Probably money.
That sparks another couple questions.
How much is enough?
When and how do you know?
Let me know by replying directly to this email. I hope to hear from you.
Catch you next week (on Sunday),
Chris

Semi-Random Thoughts
I’m (still!) working to migrate the blog from a paid hosted Wordpress blog to a self-hosted Ghost blog. I hope it will be available again in the next week or so. You can access this newsletter here until the migration is done.
What podcasts do you listen to? Now that I’m riding my bike outside more, I’ll be listening to fewer podcasts. This means the Podcast of the Week won’t be updated as often as during the colder months.
Send me podcasts that connect with you and I’ll share them as well. Let me know if (and how) you’d like to be credited in the newsletter when I share your submission.
