It’s Friday afternoon as I write this. The idea of tools and guardrails is on the verge of overwhelming my consciousness.
This is the time of week I have to work hard to let go. It’s a struggle for me to let go
into the weekend. The “is that all that’s going to happen this week” inner voice peaks about now.
Closing my laptop and disconnecting is what letting go looks like. Then I have to do the same thing w/my phone. That feels even harder.
Then I have to do the same w/my phone and sometimes laptop on the weekend. This difficulty ebbs and flows.
It feels easier the longer I resist grabbing my phone. I try and write this newsletter Friday afternoon, to prevent opening my laptop on the weekend.
These are the guardrails.
I’ve learned working past 4:30P on a weekday AND especially working on weekends has detrimental effects. So I try and sign-off at 4:30P each day. I try and stay disconnected on the weekends.
It’s a struggle each time. Each time I jump the rails I remember why they’re so important.
I actually heeded these guardrails right now.
The original subject of this issue was guardrails and tools. I realized time is creeping up on 4:30P. Rather than pushing to finish writing about tools, I’ve decided to save that subject for next week.
How about you? What are your guardrails?
