Let’s start this issue with some questions -
- Do you deserve to be seen?
- Are you worthy of…?
- Are you X enough?
- Who do you think you are?
These questions have been kicking around my consciousness the past two weeks. I first thought I’d address them one-by-one.
Addressing them together started to feel right. Doing that’s what I decided to do.
These questions are important ones to me. I explore them constantly as I just roll with it.
’s Daring Greatly book provided insight into them. She discusses them in the context of shame.
This Reboot podcast episode
started me thinking about #3 again. Society drives us to believe we’re not “x” enough. Our own critical inner voice, reinforces this perspective too. Seth Godin refers to the latter as being our own worst bosses.
Sharon talks about what surprised her most in researching the book. Her research confirmed that most people didn’t feel happy. This didn’t surprise her.
She also discovered that most people didn’t feel they DESERVED to feel happy. This surprised her a lot.
I had a recent experience that caused all these questions to bombard me. They hit me hard. Their assault reminded me how fragile and uncertain our experiences and existence are.
It also reminded me that how we answer these questions determine how we fulfill or diminish our existence.
These are the topics I’ll explore in upcoming newsletters. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, let me know which of these questions resonate with you. Do so by replying directly to this email.
Catch you next week, with my gratitude,
